Add a Graded Assessment to Your Torus Project

In this article, you will learn:
  1. The function of graded assessments.
  2. How to add a graded assessment to your project.

The Function of Graded Assessments

OLI Torus has two page types: graded and ungraded. These page types have the same authoring interface, but serve different purposes in terms of grading. Graded assessments are graded. Any activities built on these pages will be graded to populate the course instructor's gradebook. In OLI, these are known as summative assessments, and typically fulfill the functions of tests, quizzes, and other assessments which grade student knowledge and understanding.

Graded assessment pages typically host a collection of activities, rather than instructional content. Text, images, and more may be hosted on a graded assessment page as a supplement to the graded activities, as opposed to being learning materials.

Adding a Graded Assessment

Graded assessments can be added in any part of the curriculum view. Any container can nest a practice page (see Create Project Containers for more information). To add a graded assessment to your project:
  1. Log into OLI Torus's authoring platform and navigate to the project of your choice.
  2. Hover over the "Create" tab and select "Curriculum".
  3. Find the "Create" menu below existing containers. Note: If Curriculum is blank, the menu will still be there.
    1. If wanting to create a graded assessment within a container, navigate within existing containers to get to the appropriate container.
  4. Select "Practice Page" from the Create menu.
  5. A new practice page will appear on the page.
In this screenshot, there is a Unit container in Curriculum. The "Create" menu is still visible if there is no content on the page.
A new graded assessment will appear on the Curriculum view. If containers or other pages were already on the view, then the new graded assessment will spawn beneath the existing material.
