Frequently Asked Questions for OLI Torus Students - Getting Started

What browser should I use?

Chrome is recommended.

How do I access my OLI Torus account?

There are two ways to access an OLI Torus account. Only one of these ways will work for you course depending on how it is set up.
1. Through a link set up by your instructor in your school's system. There is no OLI Torus account ID or password. You must be signed in to your school's system to click through to the OLI Torus course.
OR
2. Enroll once through an initial invitation link provided by your instructor / school, set up an account using your email address, verify the email address, and then sign in at https://proton.oli.cmu.edu/session/new with your learner account (not authoring account).

If the link is not working or expired, please contact your instructor to ask for a different link. If you are having a technical issue with enrolling, please email oli-help@cmu.edu.


I cannot find the email to verify my account. What should I do?

The email has the subject "Confirm Email Address" and is from "Open Learning Initiative torus-admin@oli.cmu.edu via amazonses.com". If you do not find this email by searching your inbox and spam or junk folders, try signing up for an account here making sure to enter the correct email address: https://proton.oli.cmu.edu/registration/new
Once you verify your email address, follow the invitation link from your instructor.
If you still cannot verify your email address, email oli-help@cmu.edu for assistance especially if you use a mail system managed by Microsoft.

I'm signed in to my school's system to click through to OLI Torus, but my sign-in keeps timing out. What can I do?

Chrome is recommended. There are known issues with other browsers such as Edge. Please report this behavior to oli-help@cmu.edu. Your sign-in should persist while you work.

How do I sign back in if I access OLI through a link in my school's system set up by my instructor with no OLI Torus account?

Close any open OLI Torus windows, open your school's system, sign in, click the link set up by your instructor to go to OLI Torus. This signs you in. You must have an active sign-in to your school's system to access your OLI Torus course materials. You do not have an OLI Torus Account ID.

How do I sign back in if I access OLI Torus by signing in at proton.oli.cmu.edu with an OLI Torus account?

Access the course by signing in at at https://proton.oli.cmu.edu/ with your existing student account.
