Create an independent instructor account for Direct Delivery courses

Create an independent instructor account for Direct Delivery courses

This article describes how to create an instructor account if you're using Direct Delivery for your OLI Torus courses, instead of linking them in your school's Learning Management System (LMS). If you're using an LMS, you don't need an independent instructor account.

  1. Visit OLI Torus and click Learner/Educator Sign In.
  2. Click Create an Account at the very bottom of the panel.
Note: This new account must be a Learner/Educator account, not an Authoring account.
  3. Fill in your email, first name, last name, and password. Alternatively you can create your account using your Google/gmail account by clicking Sign in With Google.
  4. You'll receive an email to confirm your address with the subject "Open Learning Initiative" from torus-admin@oli.cmu.edu . Check your SPAM or filtered folders if you can't find it within a minute or two. Click the button and return to OLI Torus to sign in.
Note: If you do not receive an email to confirm, let us know when you email to request adding instructor access so we can confirm it for you.
  5. Click Tech Support at the top of the page to email OLI Help or email oli-help@cmu.edu (or your existing point-of-contact) to notify us that you need instructor privileges added to your account.
  6. After receiving confirmation that instructor access is added, you will be able to create new OLI Torus courses for use with your students via Direct Delivery (website delivery with login, as opposed to single sign-on in your school's LMS) by clicking the New Section button in the upper left of your My Courses landing page and searching for your course title.
Note: If you do not see your project listed to create a new course section, you may need to link your educator account to your authoring account or contact your collaborators for access to the project.
